| Insulated Plated Meal Transport System Case History - Lovely Lunches |

|
Lovely lunches based in Symondsbury on the outskirts of Bridport in Dorset specialise in delivering ‘home cooked’ style food on a daily basis Monday to Friday. The area served by Lovely Lunches is within a 12 mile radius of Bridport. To provide this service Lovely Lunches chose the Thermobox Dinner Champion Insulated Plated Meal Transport System
From their small (20’ x 40’) unit they distribute meals to within 6 miles of Symondsbury, Bridport.
Lovely Lunches cook all their meals fresh daily. Typically the Lovely Lunches team start preparation at about 8.30 a.m, the main part of the meal such as a pie or meat is cooked between 10 a.m. and 12 noon and the vegetables are cooked between 11.30 and 12. From 11.50 to 12 noon the starters are put in lidded and hot porcelain bowls and placed in a compartment of an individual insulated Dinner Champion Thermobox. At 12 noon the meals are served into hot porcelain plates, lidded and also placed in a separate compartment of the insulated Dinner Champion Thermobox. As soon as a batch of four or five meals are loaded into their named Thermoboxes they are put in a vehicle and then sent out for delivery.

Georgina Burnham, the proprietor of Lovely Lunches does all the cooking herself with the help of Mr Irvine her assistant
Fresh produce! Fresh local ingredients are one of the cornerstones of the Lovely Lunches service, Georgina grows some produce on her own farm and buys the rest locally. Georgina mentioned that “what I can’t get locally is still normally English, the wholesalers know that I tend to give back foreign produce!”.
By 12.15 p.m. all the meals, typically about 40 per day but up to 60, have been plated, sealed and put in the the insulated Dinner Champion Thermoboxes and loaded into vehicles and sent on their way to the customer.

The end result is a fresh meal, cooked with care using primarily local ingredients, delivered usually within 20 minutes of being served. The nutritious food either piping hot on a hot porcelain plate or still nicely chilled on a chilled porcelain bowl is ‘warmly’ welcomed by all diners.
Some of the benefits of this service are more than you would expect. Georgina, using a real knowledge of nutrition, and of her customers, really works hard to ensure that customers get not only what they want but what they need. Because every Dinner Champion Thermobox carries the customers name Georgina can make small adjustments when plating the meals. As you would expect many of the lovely lunches customers are elderly but this does not mean they all have the same needs. A decent sized meal that is fine for a busy man would be too much, and actually put a frail old lady, with a small appetite, off her meal. The day I watched a lovely steak and kidney pie was the main fare but one or two customers had a mouth watering plate of beautiful steamed salmon. Some meals were very small whilst others were substantial.
